I am going Stir Crazy! We got home from Idaho late last Tuesday. J and E came and got us from the
airport. We were so grateful. The night we left for Idaho we got
about 8 inches of snow. About 4
days later it got really warm and rained about 3 inches and melted the
snow. It was so nice to come home
to no snow! I could get used to
this! We came home and I went
straight to work. My house was
spotless when we left so I came home, cleaned AGAIN, put my Christmas
decorations away, did a bunch of organizing and finished finalizing my lesson
for Sunday. Then the text came…
Our Bishop said please immediately refer to your email and take
action. I was standing in line at
the copy shot behind 10 other people on a Friday afternoon to make copies for
my lesson. I opened my email and
saw that there was a large storm coming in and church would be cancelled on
Sunday. Score! I walked right out of line and back to
the car. Brian and I consulted and
decided we would go to the store and get a few things just in case and I had to
get groceries for a youth activity the next morning.
We went to Menards so Brian could get some connections to hook up the
generator Brian got for Christmas to the furnace so in the result of a power
outage we could still have heat. We
went to Meijer, not Fred Meyer but basically the same. OH. MY. WORD. I have never seen anything like it. There was not a cart to be found. The food department was CRAZY and the
lines were at least 10 customers long.
We were very amused. We
just came from Idaho and were reminded that this ‘potential’ storm would be
just a baby storm by Idaho standards.
The predictions were 10+ inches of snow. 30 MPH wind and then-22 degree temperatures for 3 days.
Saturday night:
Jim has be in India for a major CAT thing. Like can’t miss.
He is supposed to leave Sunday at 1. J calls Brian and asks if we would take him to the airport. Brian said sure.
Sunday morning:
We get up. It has snowed 3
inches. No wind. J and E picks us
up and we take off down I-65.
Roads are pretty bad. Long
story short we watch the road conditions and watched his flight
conditions. We make it to the
airport in just over 2 hours.
Usually takes 55 minutes. We
saw over 15 people go off the road.
We shouldn’t have been out on the roads ha. We started home.
Lots more people off the road.
Lots more snow. I keep
watching the weather conditions and notice a road closure on the Freeway. I communicate to Brian who is driving
and he makes the decision to take a local back highway. We made it home just fine and we got
home and decided we made the right choice. The highway was closed for 2 hours!
J’s flight ended up being cancelled. Just our luck right?
5 hours of driving for nothing.
That’s ok. We were all
safe.
It is continuing to snow over and inch and our.
6:00 PM- Winds start to
pick up and the temperature is dropping fast.
10-PM – Brian gets and email that says they are supposed to work from
home Monday.
Monday Morning:
EXTREMELY cold for Indiana.
Cold for anyone’s standards really. -18. Real feel
-45. Freeway from Lafayette to
Chicago closed and there is a travel warning and no one is supposed to be out
on the road. We watch the football
game and the power keeps flickering.
No School for the kids.
Tuesday:
Still very cold. Still a
travel advisory and only necessary travel is allowed. Brian goes to work. Won’t let me drive because it is so
slick. No School. Not sure what we will do tonight. I am going STIR CRAZY! My housework is done. I can’t go anywhere. School is cancelled tomorrow. Our packages we shipped home have been
delayed due to weather. Once those
get in I will have a whole bunch of projects.
Anywhoo,
Enough about our week. Here
is our Christmas re-cap!
